A Weakly Non-hydrostatic Shallow Model for Dry Granular Flows

چکیده

A non-hydrostatic depth-averaged model for dry granular flows is proposed, taking into account vertical acceleration. variable friction coefficient based on the $\mu(I)$ rheology considered. The obtained from an asymptotic analysis in a local reference system, where contribution supposed to be small compared hydrostatic one. counterpart of pressure may written as sum two terms: one corresponding stress tensor and other introduced here weakly non-hydrostatic, sense that related not taken due its complex implementation. simple efficient numerical scheme proposed. It consists three-step splitting procedure, it reconstruction. Two key points are: (i) force has before solving pressure. Otherwise, incompressibility condition ensured; (ii) both are when dealing with force. then validated several tests, including laboratory experiments collapse. influence terms choice coordinate system (Cartesian or local) analyzed. We show models less sensitive system. In general, much better reproduces collapse models. An important result simulated mass profiles up deposit front velocity greatly improved. As expected, shown larger values slope.

Anisotropy of weakly vibrated granular flows.

We experimentally probe the anisotropy of weakly vibrated flowing granular media. Depending on the driving parameters-flow rate and vibration strength-this anisotropy varies significantly. We show how the anisotropy collapses when plotted as a function of the driving stresses, uncovering a direct link between stresses and anisotropy. Moreover, our data suggest that for small anisotropies, the s...

Diphasic non - local model for granular surface flows

– Considering recent results revealing the existence of multi-scale rigid clusters of grains embedded in granular surface flows, i.e. flows down an erodible bed, we describe here the surface flows rheology through a non-local constitutive law. The predictions of the resulting model are compared quantitatively to experimental results: The model succeeds to account for the counter-intuitive shape...

Hydrodynamics from Grad’s equations for weakly inelastic granular flows

We introduce and discuss Grad’s moment equations for dilute granular systems of hard spheres with dissipative collisions and variable coefficient of restitution, under the assumption of weak inelasticity. An important byproduct is that in this way we obtain an hydrodynamic description of a system of nearly elastic particles by a direct procedure from the Boltzmann equation. In particular, it is...

Closure relations for shallow granular flows from particle simulations

The discrete particle method (DPM) is used to model granular flows down an inclined chute with varying basal roughness, thickness and inclination. We observe three major regimes: arresting flows, steady uniform flows and accelerating flows. For flows over a smooth base, other (quasi-steady) regimes are observed: for small inclinations the flow can be highly energetic and strongly layered in dep...
